Are you guys keeping a journal / day log? And if you do, what app(s) are you using?

Oh my goodness, you just triggered me. This is my ongoing challenge and I've recently gone around the circle again.

At work, I use Obsidian.

For home, as of two days ago, I am using OmniOutliner. As I did years ago.

For personal memories and reflections, I continue to use Day One.

My wife is using Day One.
I did journal with Day One, but could not stick to it. I am now journaling with Apple's Journal.app, not using the prompts, only the "latest" items to recap my day.

I think I might try writing stuff down on paper here and there? I have never stuck with journaling of any kind..

jason my wife does the pen and paper thing. Refuses to use any kind of app for it 😆

Like podcast players, I seem to insist on trying new apps frequently. In this case, I keep coming back to DayOne. I’ve got over 14,000 entries in there. So, definitely some lock in. But, a good app, so I don’t mind

I have never been very good about this and I used to use DayOne which honestly is really good but I ran into some bumps in what I wanted to do so now I am using Obsidian and short of explaining it all oddly enough I finally had posted something earlier this week that had been sitting in my drafts for too long. The short version, I like my setup and works well for me, not as pretty as DayOne but it is all there and works.

ericmwalk I have never actually tried the daily note thing in Obsidian. Maybe I should give it a try and see what I come away with.

I have just moved away from DayOne to Everlog. It imported my almost 10 years of entires with zero issues. We will see how it goes. Tired of the leaning into AI, and the attempts at upselling (I was on a grandfathered plan - couldn't you just leave me alone?). Solo developer, with a subscription or reasonable one time payment (which is 50% off in November - at least it has been in the past). The one time payment also respects Family Sharing.

dsh1705 oh, nice. Everlog looks quite good. It imported close to 10,000 DayOne entries without any trouble and I’m checking it out. I have no major complaints about DayOne, just looking for a simpler alternative

mroutley You're welcome! The preferences are quite comprehensive - worth poking around in, if you want to replicate some DayOne behavior - or change things up a bit!
