So, I have played one session with 4 other people, so we've started a 4+ server.
My first impressions:
- Big Walk is no "friend slop", the game world is not randomized and will likely be the same for each game (file). However, the puzzles are changed according to the number of players in the current session, requiring 2 to 4 players to complete. In sessions with more than 4 players, multiple puzzles can be solved at the same time.
- Ending a session saves the current state of the world. New sessions can be started with a different amount of players, changing the puzzles but not the world. You may start with 2 players and continue with 4+ in the next session.
- More players = more chaos, but also more hands to carry tools.
- The world is designed to ease backtracking as you progress. I think you will always start your session from the tutorial area, but as you solve more puzzles and access new areas, you can open huge gates that connect the tutorial area to the rest of the world.
- Except for light sources, you don't really need tools. Some tools make solving a puzzle way easier.
- You will fall from great heights, lose your tool and be stunned for a moment.
- Collision detection is still wonky. Tools have clipped into trees and when navigating the paths, you often get stuck on rocks.
- It's running fine on my MacBook Pro w/ M1 Pro, 32GB. I used high graphics on 1080p.
- I found playing with Mouse + WASD better than with a controller. Easier to hit buttons and catch items.
